Media Player Classic, originally created by Gabest as a closed-source application, but then he decided to make it an open-source application, is an extremely compact, light-weight media player that has the look and feel of Windows Media Player 6. It is capable of VCD, SVCD and DVD playback, without the need to install any additional software or codecs. Media Player Classic is primarily based on the DirectShow architecture, automatically using installed DirectShow decoding filters. Media Player Classic also supports native playback of OGM and Matroska container formats. Media Player Classic has built-in codecs for MPEG-2 video with support for subtitles and codecs for LPCM, MP2, AC3 and DTS audio. Another interesting feature about Media Player Classic is its ability to modify the filters when playing your favorite video files.
